| My second installment has to be easier....so they told me !!
The season is soon to be upon us. Registration has finished ( unless there are some late ones - but hurry up ) and we are about to make the decision on the teams we will have for this year. We are still running a drought at the upper echelon levels of Midget and Juvenile that has come from years past along with lesser numbers in that age grouping. We have some great teams on the horizon , as I look over the names in each of the divisions , that should show up at the end of the year with some great hockey under their belts. Highly competitive and fun hockey is what we strive for , and there should be no lack of it. Fun is the operative term here. It is not only up to the organization , but also the parents and kids to make hockey fun. Parents must realize that little "Johnathon" or "Kate" has to have fun to enjoy hockey. Who would like to do something that isn't any fun? Sounds like a job instead of a sport. This does not mean that to have fun , hockey must not be competitive , but the two can go hand in hand. Parents must always strive to build up the confidence of the player as well as the team. Negativity goes a long way towards taking the fun out of anything , and hockey is not immune. Kids have to learn that not all players are created equal and some have abilities that others don't. This is true for all teams - from the NHL to the pond - there are those who excel at a different rate than others. Kids should accept this and learn that if they see someone having a problem , then maybe they can help them. Kids can teach kids !! Also words of encouragement are great to help a team in bringing itself together as a cohesive unit. A pat on the back or a "nice try" can go a long ways towards building self-esteem and keeping it fun.
My challenge to you in Bulldog land is as follows :
GO THROUGH ONE MONTH WITHOUT A NEGATIVE COMMENT
We'll touch base later and see if you all can do it for two months next.
We have the autographed Sidney Crosby Team Canada jersey that will be on display shortly at the arena for the fundraising ticket sale.
Remember - let's all have a SAFE , FUN , ENJOYABLE year of hockey.
Also get ready for a new , revised Winter Classic - details to come out soon !!!
Bye for now, P.J.
